In Erbil, a special day for Al-Salam radio

On February 13, we celebrated World Radio Day. On this occasion, the French Institute in Erbil and Radio al-Salam organized a special event, in the presence of the Consul General of France in Erbil and the Consul General of France in Mosul, as well as journalists from Radio al-Salam and other speakers. Nearly 80 people were able to attend speeches, discussions and discoveries about the world of radio and the exceptional work of this unique editorial team, operating in the heart of Iraq where the political, social and economic context remains fragile.

The public had the opportunity to participate in a photo exhibition retracing the history of the creation of the radio and highlighting its commitment, its actions, its victories.

Always with the aim of allowing everyone access to the media, Radio al-Salam journalists recorded a live podcast of the event, allowing those who were unable to be present to discover more about this day, thus illustrating the exceptional work of this extraordinary editorial staff.

Always committed to preserving media independence and freedom of expression, The Guild supports initiatives to create and support independent media, such as Radio al-Salam.

Born in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, in 2015, in a cradle of civil war and social disparities, Radio al Salam promotes dialogue and living together by carrying the voices of populations among the least heard and listened to: refugees, displaced people and , for some today, returned.

Broadcast in Arabic and Kurdish to more than 5 million listeners, al-Salam symbolizes this thirst for reconstruction of the Iraqi territory embodied by a team with plural cultures and faiths. Through eclectic broadcasts, reports and interviews linked to ethnic and religious minorities, it is a vector of social reconciliation, of living together, overcoming the communitarian barriers expressed by the majority of media lacking editorial independence. AFD is today the primary supporter of Radio al Salam.

The Guild is proud to contribute to the sustainability of an independent, multi-faith radio station, where journalists coexist highlighting the news of the country's minorities, making it an essential instrument of dialogue and understanding.
